PopTier ("we," "us," or "our") operates the PopTier mobile application and the website at poptier.app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect information about you when you use our Service.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account (via Apple Sign-In or anonymous authentication), we collect a unique user ID and, if provided, your display name.
Usage Data
We collect information about how you use the app — brackets played, tournament results, streaks, and leaderboard scores — to power features like the global leaderboard and Hall of Fame.
Device Data
We may collect device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostic purposes.
Push Notification Token
If you grant notification permission, we collect your device's push token to send daily bracket alerts and streak reminders.
Purchase Data
In-app purchase transactions are processed by Apple or Google. We receive confirmation of purchases but do not store payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the PopTier Service
- Maintain global leaderboards and player rankings
- Track streaks, tournament history, and Hall of Fame records
- Send push notifications you have opted into
- Improve the app and diagnose technical issues
- Enforce our Terms of Use
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Information Sharing
We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Firebase (Google) for database, authentication, and crash reporting; Apple/Google for payment processing and push notifications.
- Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the acquirer honoring this Privacy Policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at [email protected]. Leaderboard entries attributed to anonymous IDs may persist in aggregated form after deletion.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us at [email protected].
6. Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted data transmission and Firebase security rules — to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
PopTier is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly. Contact us if you believe we may have information from or about a child.
8. Third-Party Services
PopTier uses data from TMDB (The Movie Database) and Trakt under their respective licenses. Movie and TV show metadata is not personal data. We also use Google AdMob for ads on the free tier; AdMob's privacy practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
